7 Sins Brewery Celebrates First Anniversary

To help us celebrate, you are invited to our beer drinking, pig roast blowout. This event will be off the chain! All 7 sins are on tap to go with a savory locally-sourced pig roast dinner (in fact, the hog is squealing in our back yard right now). Live music performances by two amazing local artists, too!

7 Sins Craft Beers on tap

Getting back to the sins, here is a quick look at our crafts.

Lust – is our Cherry Wheat, a craft great for summer – made with real cherry juice – it is refreshing yet still a full tasting wheat beer
Wrath –
NO ONE matches our IPA; it is not-too-hoppy with a hint of citrus, and delivers a mean ABV
Sloth –
you can chill-out with our Belgian, obliging in an 8.6 ABV
Pride –
our boastful Pilsner is a blonde with a hint of honey, one to throw back on a hot day; also a great place to start, if you’re just getting into craft beers or, watching your waistline
Greed –
Gimme more of our American Brown, this brown beer has so much depth you will want more – it has a roasted caramel flavor throughout every drop and a hint of chocolate in the finish
Gluttony –
indulge on our Stout that dares compare with Guiness, it is black and medium-bodied, with a smoky rye finish
Envy –
our Amber is to die for, an easy-drinking amber with a light nose and rich copper color, hits you at first, firing up your taste buds to start, and then…. finishes, just right!

Pints are $4 all night long. Glasses of Sensory Winery wines are $4 too.

Lust

LUST CHERRY WHEAT IS TAPPED – PUT YOUR LIPS ON ONE!

AS IT SHOULD BE, LUST IS OUR CHERRY WHEAT – A TRADITIONAL WHEAT, INFUSED WITH A MILD SWEET CHERRY. THIS BREW LAVISHES THE LIPS AND IS PERFECT FOR THE DAYS WE LUST FOR.

The 7 Sins Brewery cherry wheat uses real cherry juice to flavor. Real ingredients. All the time.

This beer is a refreshing, luscious craft beer perfect for summer.

Lust is erubescent in color – a cherry copper that almost blushes. It comes in at a 9 on the SRM scale. Lust cherry wheat has a low bitterness (IBU of 10) and its ABV is only 4.2% – both of which make it easy to drink.  At the same time, it is full of body and flavor and simply divine. All these qualities will quench your thirst for damned good craft beer.

Here is the minutia:

  • Ale Yeast
  • Grains/malts: 2 Row, Wheat, Munich
  • Hops: Liberty, Saaz
  • IBU: 10
  • SRM: 9
  • ABV: 4.2%
  • Nose: fruity
  • Flavor: hint of cherry
  • Medium body
  • Average effervescence

Pride

By | Beer Stuff | No Comments

IN YOUR FACE!

HEY, WHEN YOU GOT IT, YOU GOT IT. PRIDE, THE 7 SINS BLONDE LAGER IS SOMETHING TO BOAST ABOUT. IT HAS A LIGHT (ALMOST) SWEET, FRUITY FLAVOR AND IS BABIED THROUGHOUT THE BREWING PROCESS, KEPT AT A PRECISE TEMPERATURE. NEW TO BEER. NEW TO CRAFT BREWS. OR NOT. THIS LIGHT LAGER MAKES US ALL PROUD.

The 7 Sins Brewery Pilsner is made right. In a world of ales including IPAs, stouts and sours, we have heard the Pilsner is on its way to the craft brew market with 7 Sins Brewery’s Pride sure to lead the pack! One ingredient that makes it a pilsner is the yeast – ours is brewed with a German Lager yeast (instead of an ale yeast like many other craft beers).

And yes, it does taste like a refreshing, thirst-quenching American beer, as it should. Being hand-crafted by our head brewer, Bear, it also has a craft beer feel with layers of flavor and lots of depth.

Try it yourself and you will agree. It stands alone.

Pride is a brilliant golden blonde color – right at 4 on the SRM scale. It has less alcohol content than most craft beers yet, more than your everyday beer at 4.8%. Again, in true pilsner fashion it is not as bitter as some beer styles – just bitter enough to make it a BEER at 26 IBU.

Pride has a fruity nose and (almost) sweet flavor with a light body. Finally, Pride has a velvety finish – offering a fresh experience to your day.

The deets

  • German Lager Yeast
  • Grains/malts: 2 Row, German Pils, German Carapils
  • Hops: Hallertau Hersbrucker, Tettnanger, Saaz
  • IBU: 26
  • SRM: 4
  • ABV: 4.8%
  • Nose: fruity
  • Flavor: (almost) sweet
  • Light body
  • Average effervescence

Wrath

By | Beer Stuff | No Comments

Don’t be fooled, Wrath is not your typical MMO fighter pale ale. True to an IPA brewed with strong hops, a bit bitter and with significant alcohol content, Wrath was also created with a smooth malty backbone and a crisp orange hop flavor, placing it in a league of its own. Swill this brew with your favorite cigar and experience a 7 Sins anticipated prize-winner.

For all you craft beer enthusiasts, here is an in-depth look at the 7 sins Brewery IPA.

IPA is almost synonymous with craft beer, with an infinite number of India Pale Ale beers in the market. With that in mind, we wanted to make sure you don’t forget our Wrath and created a unique brew – Wrath IPA has a high IBU (68) yet with lots of other flavors to round out the bitterness including hints of citrus, pine and carmel. Scents of citrus and carmel are also distinguishable. Wrath has a crisp finish – bringing all these qualities together to produce an ambrosial experience.

Finally, its color is ablaze – a rich copper, 14 on the SRM scale and has a light-to-medium body. And to be expected, the ABV is 7 %.

If you are obsessed with IPAs, here’s the minutiae:

  • Ale Yeast
  • Grains: 2 Row; Carapils; Carabrown; Crystal 40
  • Hops: Amarillo, Centennial, Northern Brewer, Liberty
  • IBU: 68 -70 (high)
  • SRM: 14 (copper)
  • ABV: 7
  • Nose: citrus, carmel
  • Flavor: crisp hoppy orange/citrus, pine, carmel
  • Light/medium body
  • Average/slightly below average effervescence

Live Music and a Stout to die for

By | Beer Stuff, Open Mic | No Comments

7 Sins Brewery has co-hosted Open Mic for a good part of the year with Sensory Winery & Art Gallery. And it only gets better.

Now the audience gets to hear some really cool jams from renowned local bands.

This month Mark and Dinah of the Acoustic Gypsies will perform. The Acoustic Gypsies are from Erie and known for their acoustic rock covers – they play Allman Brothers, Van Morrison, Skynyrd, CCR and stuff like that. Sweet.

You can always show off your own skilz and score a free beer too, if you dare. The December event is coming up this week – Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

Speaking of beer, the Gluttony Stout is like chillin’ by a warm fire after braving the winter weather, warms you up and tastes so good, with a perfect finish. Come try it. Pints are only $4. Additionally, Envy Amber Ale, Greed Brown Ale, Wrath IPA,  and Blood Orange Ale are on tap.

And – throughout December, when you buy a 64 oz. growler, you get to hang with the Sensory and 7 Sins crowd and drink a pint, on the house.

Sensory wine will also be served at $4 a glass. And free munchies for all as well.

C-ya!

Craft Beer Boom

By | Beer Stuff | No Comments

Ever wonder why so many craft beer breweries are popping up?

Nationwide, I believe it is simply a part of Millenials demand for local fresh organic food and in a way supporting the We Are The 99% movement – sincerely hoping to give props to the little guy.

Meanwhile, New York’s Southern Tier and Northwestern Pennsylvania have a ton of new breweries. Perhaps it’s because the most popular microbrewery in the country is literally in our backyard.  Or it could be that New York State got to the party on time and since 2013 offers lax alcohol laws as well as tax breaks to microbreweries and especially farm breweries.

OpenMicBeerPour

The idea of this legislation is to promote economic growth (while still generating tax revenue for the state). It also promotes agriculture which is great for the local economy. For instance, farm breweries only have to serve finger foods instead of a more robust menu like other alcohol establishments – and if they use a significant percentage of New York state grown ingredients in their craft beer, are eligible for tax exemptions.

What great news, craft breweries will brew locally and use ingredients from local sources – sustainable! (Not to mention you the consumer get to imbibe in so many intense brews like Gluttony or Lust from 7 Sins!)

Grand Opening Entertainment

By | Grand Opening | No Comments

7 sins Brewery orders you to come to and “live a little” at our Grand Opening pig roast. Sensory Winery & Art Gallery will host the bash, Saturday, July 16 from 5 – 9 p.m.

In addition to swilling the sinful craft brews and chowing down on pork, you can catch some live local music.

To start, Chris and Joylene from Erie will perform at 5 p.m. This power pop duo has performed at our co-sponsored Open Mic nights at Sensory. They hail from Erie via Baltimore and offer a melodramatic yet hopeful vibe. They are just getting started on the Erie scene – check them out as part of their former band The Honest Mistakes. The Honest Mistakes have cut four records so it is no mistake 7 Sins has found a winner to kick off the evening.Chris & Joylene

The Mulligans headline the evening, bringing down the house at 7. They are a locally renowned Celtic rock band (also known as an Irish drinking band…. right on) playing mostly in Erie and throughout PA and WNY. The band is made up of three pranksters – singer and guitarist Jon Nolan; Joe Nolan, Jon’s brother, plays upright bass and also sings; and, Brian Strobel is on drums and harmonies. I have no doubt these guys aren’t afraid to be a little sinful and partake in a few of our 7 Sins crafts…

Grand Opening

By | Beer Stuff, Grand Opening, News | No Comments

Here is your chance to be a little sinful – and I don’t mean going to Vegas to play the slots! I’m talking about a bash to celebrate 7 Sins Brewery craft beers respectfully named for the seven sins.

Our peeps at Sensory Winery & Art Gallery are co-hosting our Grand Opening, Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 5 – 9 p.m. There will be beer specials on all our crafts. You may also meet the Beer Demon, Bear, who keeps our brews tasting so sinfully good.

There will be a pig roast and live music to keep the party going – headlining the stage are The Mulligans from Erie at 7 p.m. The opening act will be Chris and Joylene a budding Erie duo who formerly performed with the Honest Mistakes in Baltimore.

As far as brews go, we will have an amber ale, blood orange ale, brown ale, cherry wheat and stout all on tap. So wrong, yet so right. See you on the 16th.

Local talent showcased at Open Mic nights

Local talent is showcased at Open Mic nights co-hosted by 7 Sins Brewery and Sensory Winery & Art Gallery. Here is a snippet of what you could hear monthly, every third Thursday, at Sensory from musicians, Chris and Joylene and Linda Lewis. In addition to listening to the music, observe interviews with the artists introducing themselves and talking about why Sensory’s space is so unique and inviting.

lindalewis

If you are interested in performing, please contact Sensory’s manager, Fergie. Performers get a drink on the house, a welcoming crowd along with a professional and inspiring host, Jim Cuneo. Check out previous blogs on Open Mic.

And remember while attending the event, it is ok to be a little sinful and indulge in the beers on tap. Right now we are featuring 5 of the 7 sins, including Envy – an Amber Ale of which some say is the best craft amber around! Also on tap are Gluttony – a roasted, smoky American Stout with a hint of rye; and Greed – an American Brown that has a low hop profile, with a slightly sweet roasted caramel flavor throughout and a hint of chocolate in the finish. Lust is a typical (and delicious) wheat infused with a mild sweet cherry while Wrath, is an IPA created with a smooth malty backbone and a crisp orange hop flavor, placing it in a league of its own.

Sinful indeed.
